「方向・方角」を表す前置詞 in

それでは、つい最近授業で取り扱った「早稲田大学」の問題をどうぞ。上位クラスの授業だったのですが、正答率が非常によくありませんでした。

空所に前置詞を補いなさい。何も補う必要のない場合もあります。【07 早稲田大・改題】

Three members of our group went out ( ) different directions to find firewood.

後ろの「directions」に着目して「方向・方角」を表す「in」が答えです。in the direction of ～、in ～direction「～の方(角)へ」の意味になります。「方向・方角」にto は使えません！

入試では本当に頻出です。
